Cat and Dog Laser Therapy
in Germantown, MD
Pet laser therapy has been in use for over 40 years, but only recently has it been made available in an accessible form for veterinary practices. It is still a relatively new therapy, so many practices in Germantown and the surrounding area do not offer it. At Little Seneca Animal Hospital, we’re proud to be able to bring this innovative service to you and your pet. Call (301) 540-8670 to learn more!
Harnessing Light Energy for Healing
Laser therapy uses concentrated light energy to penetrate deep into the tissue and stimulate cellular activity. In damaged tissue, whether from injury, surgery, or a chronic condition, cells are usually lethargic and less active in their healing process. Pet laser therapy energizes cells so that inflammation is reduced, pain is lessened, and healing is quickened.
What Conditions Benefit from Laser Therapy
Cat and dog laser therapy is incredibly versatile and is useful in a range of conditions. Common uses include:
- Post-operative recovery
- Topical wounds
- Dental extractions
- Periodontal disease
- Infections
- Inflammation
- Arthritis
- Degenerative joint disease
- Lick granulomas
- Tendonitis
…and much more!
Treatment Timeline
Pet laser therapy is cumulative in nature, but its efficacy means sometimes only one or two treatment sessions are needed. We use Companion Therapy Laser and have an experienced team qualified to operate it. Typically for surgical recovery or wound healing, short-term treatment is enough to speed up healing, reduce inflammation, and help your pet mend.
However, more chronic conditions such as arthritis, degenerative joint disease, and severe cases of periodontal disease require more long-term care. Several sessions can help decrease pain and inflammation and slow the progression of disease. Generally, pets receive treatment once or twice a week, and the series may continue for as long as the condition persists. Laser therapy is particularly useful for compromised pets who cannot take traditional pain medication.
Every pet’s condition and situation is different, so please schedule a consultation appointment to discuss your options and get your pet on the path to a better quality of life!
